What Don’t You Like About The Cottages?

Monday, August 19th, 2013

We asked Cottage Owners what were some of the things they disliked about The Cottages, and these are some of the responses we got back:

1. When I wake up in the morning, I have a hard time deciding what to do first.

2. I don’t know where to store all the wine I get from visitors coming up for the day.

3. My kids have so many cottage friends and it’s sad to see them upset over who they should play with first.

4. Telling my friends that they can’t come and visit us every single weekend – I need a break sometimes.

5. Seeing my kids crying on the front step not wanting to leave when it’s time to go home.

6. Being double booked for a dinner party and having to disappoint one of my neighbours.

7. When you start missing your kids because they spend hours playing outside, building forts in the forest.

8. Deciding if you want the jacuzzi jets on or off  in the hot tub.

9. Running out of side walk chalk.

10. Whether to dine outside on the deck or inside by the fireplace.

11. Having to shop and decide on outdoor furniture with my husband.

12. Having to reposition my sun chair every couple hours.

13. Waking up…I get the best sleeps at the cottage.

Fire Ban in Effect at Cultus lake

no-fire

Just to all Cultus Lake travellers campers, please take note that there is a Fire Ban in effect.  Please keep the flame out for now to ensure a safe trip, and a safe summer!

What does this mean for cottagers? You’ll just have to enjoy your indoor fireplace, which all cottages come equipped with.  Alternatively, make your way to The Treehouse and enjoy the indoor fireplace with your neighbours.

So cottagers, there is no need to panic.  With just a flick of a switch you’ll still be able to enjoy a fire this long weekend.

boat on lake

Cultus Lake is an amazing and busy lake, follow these easy boating tips to ensure a safe and spectacular summer!

1. Prepare for the shock of cold water – always wear a life jacket.

2. Alcohol and boating do not mix. Leave the alcohol at home for the after party.

3. Check the forecast. Return to shore immediately if bad weather approaches.

4. Obey all warning signs and buoys around hydroelectric stations and dams; waters can change in a matter of seconds from a scenic calm to a deadly torrent. “Stay Clear, Stay Safe.”

5. Drive powerboats responsibly – use appropriate speed, especially when

the water is choppy.

6. Stay seated! You can easily fall out of a small powerboat, canoe or kayak.

7. Be prepared. Ensure your vessel has the required safety gear on board
and sufficient fuel.

8. Carry a VHF radio or cell phone with you when on the water.

9. Always tell someone where you are going and when you will return.

10. Get trained. Learn how to survive an unexpected fall into the water.

It’s Blueberry Season!

bberry

It’s that time of year again…blueberry season is now in full swing up at Cultus Lake!

Nearby The Cottages at Cultus Lake you will discover many agricultural and organic farms; everything from berries and beans to trees and cattle.  That being said, many cottagers and their families anxiously await the opening of the local blueberry “u-pick” farm!

Located on a beautifully manicured acreage in the Columbia Valley, farmers Terry and Anne welcome all Cultus Lake residents and visitors to their organic blueberry farm.  Families get the chance to spend the day together in the field and under the sun picking the largest, juiciest, organic blueberries they will ever taste.

Is there anything better than enjoying a freshly baked blueberry pie at the cottage? Mmmmmmm

Be sure to add the local blueberry u-pick farm to your summer events calendar!

Open most days. 8am – 8pm. Follow the “Blueberry U Pick” road signs along Columbia Valley Hwy.

Get Outside and Take a Hike!

Monday, June 24th, 2013

take a hike

Whether you are visiting for a weekend of fun or plan to stay the entire summer and in search of a little adventure, take advantage of the various trails in and around Cultus Lake enjoy the great outdoors right at your doorstep – literally!

The most popular hiking trail is Tea Pot Trail.  This 5 km, family friendly trail not only offers stunning views of Cultus Lake once your reach the top, but it also offers a bit of a scavenger hunt as you make your way up; they don’t call it “Tea Pot” for nothing so make sure to keep your eyes open for hidden porcelain.

For the more extreme enthusiasts looking for a more challenging adventure, try out the Vedder Mountain Ridge Trail.  This 10 km route is a bit more rustic than others with a mix of ridge top views and rope-assisted climbs and will take you approximately 4 hours to complete.

The shortest of trails is the Giant Douglas Fir Trail.  Its 1 km route will take you less than 1 hour to climb, and although it’s the quickest trail to hike it offers the most historical sight – an 800 year old Douglas fir tree that is the oldest and largest tree in the entire Cultus Lake Provincial Park

The Seven Sisters Trail is a perfect trail to attempt in the afternoon. This 4 km trail will take you 1.5 hours to hike; however, don’t be surprised if it takes you a little longer.  As you make your way up you can’t help but stop to admire the seven giant Douglas fir trees.
