Cottage Community Spirit

May 23rd, 2011

Up here at The Cottages at Cultus Lake, the narrow country lanes are busy with games of street hockey, little ones learning how to ride a bicycle, and families out for a stroll. Front porches are filled with friends and neighbours gathering at the end of a fun-filled day for a well deserved chilled Chardonnay, and the air is alive with sounds of children’s laughter, the delicious smell of barbeque, and a proud sense of community spirit!

Proud cottage owners are well on their way to building a strong knit community.  This summer alone they have organzied a Summer Kick-Off BBQ, an evening s’more roast for the Grande Opening of Tall Timbers Park (a 2 acre forest within the development), and the first ever “The Cottages” Golf Tournament where cottage owners teamed up for a game of Texas Scramble with plenty of prizes to be won, just to name a few.

What’s more, the strata council publishes a monthly newsletter informing owners of the latest developments as well as upcoming community events, not to mention the chatter amongst the strata corporation of ordering merchandise bearing The Cottages well recognized logo; a true reflection of pride!

Lastly, this private neighbourhood watches out for each other and ensures that the fully gated community is a safe and well maintained place for all cottage owners, their friends and family to enjoy; this spirited community lives by the saying “the front door of your cottage starts at the gate!”

The Arrival of Spring

March 30th, 2011

With Spring drawing near cottage owners are beginning to notice the transformation of the still landscape to bright colors as the trees blossom and flower buds flourish, as well as the the nights growing longer and lighter, the early morning mist hovering over Cultus Lake and the Valley, and the waft of clean fresh air.

As cottagers eagerly anticipate the arrival of the year’s first season, and the annual blooming of the neighbourhood cherry tree, they are also busy filling in their day planners with spring cleaning chores and gardening must-do’s, as well as scheduling family and friend visits and fun activities for the entire family to enjoy all summer long.

Spring cleaning is in session and the community is getting a head start on the hectic summer season by freshening up their cottages from top to bottom.  Although The Cottages at Cultus Lake are enjoyed all year round and are more like a home away from home, the task of reviving ones cottage from the winter blues stimulates a sense that summer is just around the corner.

The first warm days will uncover the many like-minded green thumbs of the community.  Shovels and shears begin to surface as the tall timbers surrounding each cottage are pruned, winter debris is cleared, and flower beds are dug and replanted awaiting the spring rain. Neighbours like to spend their afternoons sharing their portfolio of this year’s vegetable seeds, herbs, plants and flora while the whole family spends time together in the yard lending a hand to plant them.

As you may have noticed, here at The Cottages at Cultus Lake we love spring; watching the monotone shades of winter quickly disappear making our community a colourful and cheerful place to be.

Best of all, springs arrival brings us one step closer to summer!

National Post Article Announces “Cottages Sales Soar Across Country”

June 4th, 2010

It seems that real estate stories are dominating the news these days. Whether anticipating the implications of the upcoming HST on the real estate market to comparing sales and prices of comparable properties across the country, the public is obviously hungry for information. In the past week alone, stories about mortgage rates, Canada vs. U.S. housing prices, and national real estate market indicators all made headlines!

For the most part, media stories revolve around residential housing and so while interesting, are not always applicable to recreational properties, second homes, or cottages. Time and time again we find that prospective owners at The Cottages at Cultus Lake are focussing on very different factors than the residential home buyer. Often well seasoned real estate owners, Cottage at Cultus Lake buyers tend to be primarily interested in finding that property that is going to offer their family maximum enjoyment in the immediate future while assuring a secure investment for the future. Proximity to the city (and their primary residence), amenities, community, and quality of construction are foremost in the minds of these buyers, and we’re pleased to say that The Cottages at Cultus Lake compares very favourably in the recreational property and cottage markets!

Though the following article was featured in the National Post last week, I thought I would post it for those of you who might have missed it. It offers some interesting opinions on the recreational real estate market, but again, at the end of the day, when deciding to buy a cottage the only opinion that really matters is yours!

Increasing Population = Increasing Demand for Recreational Property in BCy

May 27th, 2010

Statistics Canada’s latest population’s projections indicate that Canada’s population is expecting to grow from the current 33.7 million people to 40.1 to 47.7 million people by 2036.

On a provincial level, British Columbia is set to receive the highest percentage population increase; BC is projected to grow at a faster rate than any other Province or Territory over the next quarter century:

- 2009 population was 4.5 million
- 2036 projected population is between 5.8 million and 7 million.

How does the increasing population relate to finding the recreational property in BC, furthermore, finding what is right for you?   Over the next 25 years you will be competing with approximately 40% more prospective recreational property owners, who will be searching for that perfect second home within a reasonable driving distance from the city, just as you will be.

In summary, if you are tossing around the idea of purchasing recreational property in BC, especially something that is a quick and convenient 90-minute drive from Vancouver, now is a great time while there are unique offerings still available, such as The Cottages at Cultus Lake.
